Community Forum PDF Print E-mail
Wolfe's Neck Farm loves learning and we love community.  We put the two together with our Winter Community Forum, providing the community with a chance to learn, exchange ideas, and connect with each other.

The Forum is a series of presentations and films paired with local food and community discussions.  Each year we pick a different topic such as local food, energy, or sustainability and resilience.

2011 Community Forum: The Future of Local Food

***CORRECTION: Due to a scheduling conflict, we will not host the Feb. 1, 2011 event.  Please join us for our other three Forum events!

What's next for local food? That's the question that Wolfe's Neck Farm will explore with our upcoming Winter Community Forum. The Forum pushes the envelope of local food to explore what's next for those of us who eat, feed, grow, or sell food in Maine.

Wolfe's Neck Farm will join with the community to envision the next steps for farmers, consumers, and food distributers.

We hope you will save the date for these outstanding events!

March 1, 2011: Eating: A Tale of Two Diets.
Katherine Creswell, who regularly eats an all ME diet and is head grower at Bowdoin College's Organic Gardens, and William Shuttleworth, Superintendent of Bath Schools, who attempted to eat for $2.50 per day, based on the budget many of his students face. Katherine and William will share their experiences and talk together about the financial, nutritional, social, biological, and other realities and possibilities of eating locally in Maine.

March 22, 2011: The Future of Local Food with John Piotti, Executive Director of Maine Farmland Trust.
John provides a window into the world of local food, from land acquisition to the farmers sowing the seeds.

April 26, 2011: Eating in Maine with MOFGA Chef Cheryl Wixson.
Cheryl examines what's next for local food (and local eating) in Maine. Cheryl presented "The Maine Local Twenty" during Wolfe's Neck Farm's 2010 Community Forum and is excited to build on this theme. – Join local food producers and distributers for a night of conversation about how local food is changing and growing.

Events will include local food appetizers, presentations, and community discussion. All events will take place at the Freeport Community Center, at 6:30pm. Admission is $5.  We hope to see you there!
